GABRIELLA IS A RELATIONSHIp BREAKDOWN AND REPAIR EXPERT, HELPING PEOPLE UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE LOVE, COMMUNICATION AND FAMILY LIFE BEGIN TO UNRAVEL.

AS FEATURED ON

About Gabriella Pomare

Gabriella Pomare is an award winning author, divorce lawyer, keynote speaker and host of the podcast Before It Breaks. Her work explores the private patterns that shape modern relationships—the resentment, emotional disconnection, conflict, mental load and unspoken conversations that often begin long before a relationship visibly breaks down.

For more than a decade, Gabriella has worked with individuals and families at some of the most difficult turning points of their lives. As a Partner at The Norton Law Group Family Lawyers in Sydney, she advises on complex parenting and financial matters, including international relocation, high-conflict disputes, family violence and high-net-worth property cases.

That experience has given Gabriella a rare perspective on relationships: not only what happens when they end, but what often happens in the months and years beforehand.

Again and again, she has seen the same private patterns emerge—people living emotionally separate lives under the same roof, resentment growing beneath the logistics of family life, work becoming a place of escape, communication becoming purely functional, and couples postponing the conversations that matter until they feel impossible to have.

Gabriella’s work now moves earlier in that story.

Through her books, podcast, speaking and media commentary, she explores what happens before relationships break—and the conversations that can create repair, clarity or a healthier way forward.

From Relationship Breakdown to Repair

Gabriella’s perspective sits at the intersection of lived experience and emotionally intelligent communication.

She does not approach relationships from an idealised or purely theoretical position. Her work is grounded in more than a decade of listening to people describe what went wrong, what they ignored, what they misunderstood and what they wish they had said sooner.

Her work examines the realities of modern love and family life, including:

  • emotional disconnection and the “silent divorce”;
  • relationship burnout and resentment;
  • motherhood, identity and the invisible mental load;
  • work, technology and external validation as the third person in a relationship;
  • conflict, communication and repair;
  • separation, rebuilding and conscious co-parenting.

At the centre of Gabriella’s work is a belief that relationships rarely break because of one single moment. More often, they are shaped by the smaller moments that accumulate over time—the bids for connection that go unanswered, the conversations that are repeatedly postponed and the needs that remain unspoken.

Her message is not that every relationship must be saved. It is that people deserve the language, tools and clarity to understand what is happening before decisions are made for them by silence, resentment or crisis.

Author and Host of Before It Breaks

Gabriella is the creator and host of Before It Breaks, a podcast about modern relationships, marriage, emotional disconnection, conflict, repair and the private questions people are often afraid to ask.

Through thoughtful, honest conversations with psychologists, authors, cultural commentators and people with lived experience, the podcast explores what happens before relationships and identities begin to fracture—and what becomes possible when people finally tell the truth about what is no longer working.

Her forthcoming book, Before It Breaks, will be released in the first week of March 2027.

The book expands on the central themes of the podcast, examining the pressures shaping modern relationships and the conversations that can change what happens next. It is a practical and deeply human guide to love, conflict, resentment, communication, repair and clarity.

Together, the book and podcast form the next evolution of Gabriella’s work: moving beyond what happens after a family breaks down to explore the relationship patterns that exist long before anyone leaves.

Author of The Collaborative Co-Parent

Gabriella is also the author of The Collaborative Co-Parent (Morgan James Publishing, 2025), an internationally recognised guide to child-focused communication after separation.

Blending professional expertise with her lived experience as a separated parent, the book provides practical strategies for reducing conflict, establishing healthier boundaries and building emotionally safer family systems across two homes.

Its central message is simple:

Children should remain at the centre of family restructuring—never placed in the middle of adult conflict. The Collaborative Co-Parent was named a Distinguished Favorite in the Parenting category of the 2025 NYC Big Book Awards and a finalist in the 2025 ABLE Book Awards. Gabriella has also been recognised in the Stevie Awards Asia-Pacific and the American Business Awards for her thought leadership through the Collaborative Co-Parent platform.

While co-parenting remains an important part of Gabriella’s expertise, it now sits within a broader body of work:

Before a relationship breaks.
When it breaks.
And how families rebuild afterwards.

Communication That Changes What Happens Next

Gabriella is known for translating complex emotional and legal issues into language people can understand and use in real life.

Her signature framework, the Four Pillars of Communication—Listen, Pause, Reflect and Respond—helps people move away from reactive conflict and towards more deliberate, constructive communication.

The framework applies not only to co-parenting, but to intimate relationships, leadership, professional conflict and the everyday conversations that become harder when people feel overwhelmed, unheard or emotionally unsafe.

Through her keynote speaking and professional education, Gabriella helps audiences understand how communication, emotional intelligence and self-awareness shape relationships at home, in the workplace and within ourselves.

Media, Speaking and Influence

Gabriella is a sought-after keynote speaker and media commentator, appearing across major Australian and United States television, radio, podcasts and digital platforms. Her media appearances include NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS, Good Day New York, Good Day LA The Today Show, The Morning Show and other national and international outlets. She has completed multiple United States media tours and regularly contributes commentary on relationships, divorce, co-parenting, motherhood, communication and modern family life.

Gabriella speaks at corporate events, leadership conferences, legal seminars, professional development programs and women’s forums. Her speaking combines professional authority with personal storytelling, practical tools and an honest understanding of the pressures people carry behind closed doors.

She is particularly passionate about conversations surrounding:

  • modern relationships and emotional disconnection;
  • conflict and communication;
  • women, ambition and the mental load;
  • emotional resilience and identity;
  • separation, divorce and rebuilding;
  • child-focused co-parenting and modern family systems.

A Broader Mission

Gabriella’s mission is to change the way people understand relationship and family breakdown. She believes separation should not automatically be viewed as the destruction of a family. In many cases, it is the creation of a new family structure—with different boundaries, new rules and an opportunity to communicate more consciously.

But she also believes the conversation must begin earlier.

Her work asks people to look at what is happening beneath the surface before resentment becomes indifference, before communication becomes purely logistical and before one person emotionally leaves the relationship without ever saying so. Through her legal practice, writing, speaking and Before It Breaks platform, Gabriella is creating space for more honest conversations about love, conflict, repair, endings and what it means to begin again.

When she is not in court, writing or recording the podcast, Gabriella is at home in Sydney with her children—balancing motherhood, law, ambition and the ongoing work of being present for the life she has built.

Before it Breaks with Gabriella Pomare | A Podcast

 Before It Breaks is a podcast about the conversations people often have too late—after exhaustion has become resentment, silence has become distance, and a relationship has been quietly unravelling long before anyone says the word separation.

Through a mix of solo episodes shaped by Gabriella Pomare’s own thought leadership, observations and lived experience, and honest interviews with experts, authors and people with powerful personal stories, the podcast explores the private patterns shaping modern relationships.

From emotional disconnection, relationship burnout and the mental load to motherhood, identity, intimacy, conflict, external validation, betrayal, communication and repair, Before It Breaks asks the questions many people are thinking but are often too afraid to say out loud.

This is not a podcast about perfect relationships or saving every marriage. It is about understanding what is happening beneath the surface, recognising the patterns we often ignore, and having the conversations that can create repair, clarity or a more conscious way forward.

At its heart, Before It Breaks is about modern love in real life—and what becomes possible when we stop pretending everything is fine.
